I. Definition of Buffer Air Column Bag
1:The buffer air column bag, also known as inflatable bag or columnar inflatable bag, is a new type of packaging material that uses natural air as filling, introduced in the 21st century. Its comprehensive wrap-around air-column cushioning protection minimizes product damage during transportation. The buffer air column bag is manufactured using LLDPE and NYLON through lamination or co-extrusion, providing both tensile strength and balanced characteristics. Through continuous heat sealing, airtight air columns are formed, and the machine converts the protective film into air column protective bags, known as Air-Bags.
2:Based on physical principles, one inflation fills all columns simultaneously, with automatic air-locking function. In case of damage, only the individual damaged air column fails, while the remaining columns remain completely unaffected and continue to provide protection. It offers long-term, leak-proof shock protection during storage and transportation. The comprehensive air-column wrap-around cushioning protection reduces damage rates to a very low level.
3:The buffer air column bag is a new type of packaging system that uses air as a cushion. It wraps closely around the product, ensuring reliable protection for the packaged item. Compared with traditional fillers, it eliminates product shifting and damage during transit caused by excessive void space inside the carton. Even under external impact or compression, the form-fitting design of the air column bag utilizes the air cushion to disperse pressure and prevent damage.
II. Advantages of Buffer Air Column Bag
1:High-quality PE+PA film ensures durability, strong airtightness, and more reliable protection. The base material has passed SGS testing, containing no heavy metals, is non-toxic when burned, and meets requirements for airtightness and moisture resistance. It can replace EPE, pulp molding, and other cushioning materials.
2:Compared with traditional cushioning packaging, the air column bag occupies very little space before inflation, saving storage space and reducing handling effort. Importantly, consumers don’t need to dispose of large amounts of bulky packaging material after receiving their goods.
3:It provides long-lasting, leak-proof shock protection during storage and transportation, with automatic air-locking after inflation. Even if one air column is damaged, the overall cushioning protection of the air column bag for the product remains unaffected.

III. Basic Working Principle of Buffer Air Column Bag
1:The buffer air column bag is a “magical” packaging solution because it doesn’t need to be sealed – air can only enter or exit during the inflation process, thanks to its reverse air check valve film.
2:During manufacturing, two layers of reverse air valve film are incorporated as an inner membrane. These two layers serve as air inlet channels for each air column during inflation. Meanwhile, after the inflation pressure is removed, the reverse air check valve film tightly adheres to the outer film. Using the adhesive function provided by pre-made heat-sealing points, the air circuit is firmly closed off by air pressure.
3:The air column bag has strong pressure resistance, owing to its raw material – nylon co-extruded film. Co-extruded film is an advanced material technology that allows different materials to be co-extruded into a single film through multi-manifold co-extrusion technology. Nylon (PA) is positioned in the inner layer to provide superior toughness and puncture resistance, while polyethylene (PE) offers compressibility and heat-sealing performance.
4:Typically, the seven-layer nylon co-extruded film used for air column bags has the structure: PE-PE-TIE-PA-TIE-PE-PE. Different film layers provide different functions, and they are converged into a single film. The air column bag can retain air for extended periods, which is also enabled by the nylon co-extruded film. Nylon is a barrier material with strong gas retention properties, allowing the air column bag to hold air for up to six months.
IV. Application Scope of Buffer Air Column Bag
1: Electronic Product Packaging
Electronic products are devices that operate using electrical energy, including: watches, smartphones, telephones, televisions, VCRs, camcorders, radios, radio-cassette recorders, combination stereos, CD players, computers, game consoles, mobile communication devices, etc.

Fragile ceramic and glass products, such as glassware, lenses, pottery, and porcelain, vary greatly in value. Using air column bags during transportation provides cushioning and reduces loss.

The advent of air column bags has greatly improved this situation, as the inflatable bags inherently offer pressure resistance and impact resistance.
